| I apologize for accidentally posting on the announcement section of the forum instead of the help section. Anyways, happy 50th season for all of the Hardwood community, and especially Steve! I’m posting this because I was wondering what changing the scheduling mode would do. Even after reading the Help section, I don’t really understand…does selecting “up” scheduling mode show different schedules, or does it change how games are scheduled entirely(like Exhibition games)? Thank you for helping! Updated Saturday, January 10 2026 @ 6:06:35 pm PST |

| If you chose "Schedule Mode Down" then your non conference schedule will include teams that are ranked lower than your teams ranking. Meaning if your team is say in league 3 then the lower ranked teams on the non-conference schedule will be from league 4 or maybe 5. If you chose "Schedule Mode UP" then the teams in the non conference schedule will be from leagues above your team or like from league 2 or 1. If you chose "Schedule Mode Same" then the non conference schedule will be from league 3 with teams that have a power rating around your teams rating.. This schedule will only take effect and apply if it is set before the seasons flip. Thats why Steve announces that before every season flip. You might wonder why bothering to change the oppositions team strength for non conference is used for. One and probably the main reason is that if your teams has a tougher non conference schedule and you can beat these stronger teams then it could improve your chance of getting chosen to be part of the national tournament corresponding with your conference. Div, 1, 2, 3 However, if you take a lot of losses because of the tough non conference schedule it could cause your over all record to be worse then if you played cream puff teams because numbers of wins (some say which I am one of) can determine the teams that get chosen. Since I don't care about the tournament then I like to play cream puff teams that I can more easily beat and thats because I like having more wins than going to the national tournament where most of the time my team is bounced out after the first game. lol This is the more concise explanation of what that function is and does. Hope that helps, but yes the game manual is quite sketchy when it comes to explaining a lot of the aspects of the game. I forgot to say. The UP, Down, Same button doesn't show anything if it is changed. All it does is pick the teams (which might be stronger or weaker teams and it will include that aspect the next time schedules are created at season flip.
