Mar 06 2021: Movin' Up - by fitzjfc on September 13th, 2021

For just the second time in Hardwood History, Towson is a conference champion. The Tigers captured the conference VI. 17 title, and will move up to LL 5 after a 3-year hiatus. Though this is back where Towson was when I took over the program, winning this conference is a big step. It's a result of filling all the scholarships, finding players who can develop and mining local talent to maximize recruiting. This year's senior class of Billy Beard, Joey Kaufman, Kyle Mays and Hector Olivares have the set the tone for the future of Towson basketball. With another strong recruiting class next year led by my highest-ranked commit ever in Cal Richardson, the future is bright for the Tigers.

Feb 16 2017: Towson Wraps Up 2017 Recruiting Class - by fitzjfc on January 27th, 2021

The Tigers 2017 recruiting class is complete after three recent commits. 6'7 Trevor Parker was the third commit in the class. The Herndon, Virginia native is a speedy player with an offensive game to the three-point line, and could be a diamond in the rough if he develops. Point guard Kyle Mays was the next commit. Mays was my backup plan at point guard after Guy Ballard inexplicably became a center despite standing only 5'8. Mays is 6'2 and looks to be still growing. Like Parker, he could develop into a solid all-around player. 5'9 shooting guard and Baltimore native Cody Duffy rounded out the class. He's more of a project, but could be a good offensive player if he develops.
For the first time since I took over Towson, the Tigers will have all 13 scholarships accounted for. It also allows me to get a head start on next year's recruiting class, when I have to use five more scholarships. Towson has treaded the water the last two years, but the foundation has been set for a better future.

Dec 10 2016: A great recruiting week. - by fitzjfc on January 8th, 2021

In their second year under president Justin Fitzgerald, Towson reeled in its two best commits so far in high school seniors Guy Ballard and Guy Olivares. Ballard a 5'8 point guard from Nashville, is a smart player who can score both inside and outside. With Stan Terry graduating, Ballard is the point guard of the future Olivares, a 6'3 small forward from Wake Forest, NC, has a good outside shot and should only get better once he comes to Towson. With three more scholarships to fill, this could be the start of a class that is crucial to building our program for the long-term
