Eagles Soar to First Win of New Era with 94–26 Victory over Miles
The Coppin State Eagles opened a new chapter for the university with a dominant 94–26 victory over Miles College, securing their first win under university president Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins.
The Eagles controlled the game from the opening tip, showcasing aggressive defense, balanced scoring, and a fast-paced offense that overwhelmed Miles throughout all four quarters. Coppin State built a double-digit lead early and never looked back, holding Miles to just 26 total points — one of the program’s most commanding defensive performances in recent memory.
“This was a special night for our program and our university,” said the Eagles’ head coach. “To earn our first win in such convincing fashion, and to do it during a new era of leadership on campus, makes this victory even more meaningful.”
Coppin State’s defense set the tone early, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy transition baskets. The Eagles’ bench contributed heavily, with multiple players recording career nights as the team demonstrated its depth and unselfish play.
University president Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins praised the team’s performance and its representation of Coppin State’s spirit and resilience.
“Our student-athletes exemplified the pride, discipline, and determination that define Coppin State University,” Jenkins said. “This victory reflects the momentum and optimism we feel across campus as we continue building a strong future together.”
The Eagles’ 94-point offensive output marked their highest scoring performance of the season, while the 26 points allowed highlighted a defensive identity the coaching staff has emphasized since the start of preseason practices.
With the win, Coppin State gains early confidence and momentum as the team looks to carry its energy and execution into the remainder of the season.
The Eagles will return to action next week as they continue non-conference play, aiming to build on a performance that signaled both a strong start on the court and a promising new era for Coppin State University.
