Nov 05 2050: Lumberjacks Fighting to Find Their Stride: Stephen F. Austin Eyes Rebound Against Vermont - by ryu_da_goat on March 17th, 2026
NACOGDOCHES, TX – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks continue to navigate a challenging start to the 2050 season, holding a 2–4 record after six non-conference games. Despite the rocky start, the team has shown flashes of talent, resilience, and determination as they work to find their rhythm on both ends of the floor.
Season Highlights
The Lumberjacks have relied heavily on standout performances from several key players:
S. Lindsey (SG): Serving as the team’s primary scorer and floor general, Lindsey has consistently provided clutch shooting and playmaking, keeping SFA competitive in every game.
M. Faulk (C): Faulk has been a force inside, dominating the boards and providing a solid defensive anchor for the team. His ability to control the paint has been vital in preventing second-chance points for opponents.
B. Goodman (PF): A consistent presence in the frontcourt, Goodman has contributed both scoring and rebounding, often matching up against some of the toughest opposing forwards and helping to set the tone physically.
Other contributors like S. Brooks, K. Pollock, and M. Kanter have stepped up at key moments, showing that the Lumberjacks have depth and talent to build on.
Coach’s Perspective
Head Coach Justin Dean commented:
"It’s early in the season, and while our record isn’t where we want it to be, I’m encouraged by the growth we’re seeing on the court. Players are learning to trust each other, improve their defensive rotations, and make smarter offensive decisions. Our top players—Lindsey, Faulk, and Goodman—are leading by example, and that leadership is contagious. The focus now is on building momentum and executing our game plan consistently."
Looking Ahead – Vermont
The Lumberjacks will next face the University of Vermont Catamounts at Johnson Coliseum. Vermont brings a balanced offensive attack, combining perimeter shooting with strong post play. For Stephen F. Austin, this game represents a critical opportunity to rebound from recent losses and gain confidence as the season progresses.
Key matchups will feature Faulk and Goodman battling Vermont’s inside threats, while Lindsey’s scoring and playmaking will be essential to driving the offense and creating open looks for teammates. The coaching staff is emphasizing smart defense, controlled tempo, and maximizing transition opportunities.
Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lumberjacks as they aim to even their record and demonstrate the skill, heart, and determination that defines SFA basketball.

Oct 11 2050: Turning the Page: Lumberjacks Show New Life Under Coach Dean - by ryu_da_goat on March 9th, 2026
NACOGDOCHES, TX — November 2050 — The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are entering a new era after a year of major changes and early signs of progress on the court.
Last season marked a turning point for the program. Following the decision to move on from the previous head coach, team president Ryu Sanders began a search for a new leader who could bring energy, discipline, and a defensive mindset to the program.
That search led to the hiring of Justin Dean on March 12, a veteran coach known for his strong defensive coaching and ability to motivate players.
“Coach Dean brings leadership, experience, and a defensive identity that we believe will push this program forward,” said Sanders. “We wanted someone who could build a culture, and Justin is the right person for that.”
The early results have been encouraging. To close out last season, the Lumberjacks competed in an invitational tournament and finished 2–1, winning two of their final three games and showing strong improvement as the team began adjusting to the new direction of the program.
That momentum has carried into the start of the new basketball season.
In their first exhibition game, the Lumberjacks battled past UT Tyler Patriots with a 71–68 victory, giving Coach Dean his first win with the program and offering fans a glimpse of what the future could hold.
“It’s just one game, but it’s a good step,” Dean said after the win. “The guys competed, they defended well, and they trusted each other. That’s the foundation we’re building here.”
With a new coach, a refreshed roster, and momentum from recent performances, the Lumberjacks are focused on continuing their growth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“Our goal is simple,” Sanders added. “Compete every night, develop our players, and bring winning basketball back to Stephen F. Austin.”
