Press Releases:

Feb 01 2048: Bears Announce ‘47-‘48 Signing Class - by LemonPepper on October 26th, 2025

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas men’s basketball program is delighted to welcome three new scholarship players for the upcoming season.

Head coach Doug Pearce announced the signing of freshman Roland Ham, Matthew Echols and C.C. Hayes in a press conference at the Ferris Center earlier today.

**Roland Ham**
**6-8, 215, F, 4-Star 13-Pot. 110 SI
New Orleans, La. // Franklin HS**
Ham, a top 100 prospect nationally, is a talented inside scorer who brings tenancy to the defensive end with his monster rebounding and plus all-around defender comments. Should develop into a high-level player for the Bears.

**Matthew Echols **
**6-3, 190, W, 3-Star 13-Pot. 89 SI
Malvern, Ar. // Malvern HS**
Echols can shoot from both mid and deep range but is limited by his speed and passing. We're hoping he can become a solid defender with his size and strength if he isn’t being exploited by lightning-fast guards. Minimal investment for the Bears and is talented enough to take.

**C.C. Hayes**
**6-3.5, 175, W, 3-Star 11-Pot. 90 SI
Rogers, Ar. // Rogers HS**
Solid wing prospect with a bit of a jack of all trades master of none build. Should be a solid role player later in his career. He’s developed well over his high school career so hoping he can continue that despite his lower potential. Another player who required minimal investment, allowing to invest in the future.

Mar 13 2044: March Sees the Bears Back in The Big Dance, Legends - by LemonPepper on March 28th, 2025

The Central Arkansas Bears are back in prime time as they earned a 3-seed when the NCAA bracket was revealed on Selection Sunday (Friday).

Familiar faces join them in the East region, in fellow conference mates Ripon and Houston Baptist. UCA’s first round matchup will be the fourth time that they see the HBU Huskies on the hardwood this season, but the first without senior guard Malcolm Wills, who is nursing an Achillies injury.

Fans will be hoping that we haven’t seen the last of Wills in the purple and gray, but Coach Pearce will need some magic to see the Bears move on to the round of 32.

Marking the field of 64 wasn’t the Bears’ only success this season, as a #3 finish in conference brings them back into Legends for the 2045 season for their third stint in the prestigious conference.

Dec 07 2041: Pearce, Bears search for answers after dreadful start to conference play - by LemonPepper on November 8th, 2024

Stagnant offense and turnover issues have Bears fans wondering if Coach Pearce is the right man for the head role.

After a successful first season in charge and impressive 36-9 record, Coach Doug Pearce is now 29-28 over his last two seasons.

According to sources around the program, there is concern that Pearce won with his predecessor’s players and has not landed the top talent that his recruiting acumen had fans hoping for.

Sophomore Malcolm Wills has struggled with turnovers while Freshman DJ Marshall has been battling injuries and has yet to have the impact this year that fans had hoped for.

Speaking to reporters after another home loss to Seton Hall, Pearce did mention that practice will be seen as an open competition and that a change in rotation could come sooner rather than later.

The impact of these changes is yet to be seen, but at this point in the season, it looks like UCA could be returning to LL3 for the first time in 15 years.
