Dec 01 2022: Boll Weevils sign big man Robbie Becker - by noelypants on December 7th, 2021

Our Strategic Communications team was away at a wedding at the time of the signing, so it is with a bit of delay but no less excitement that we formally announce Bradley Redd's first recruiting commitment for UAM, Robbie Becker!

The big man is in the midst of an impressive sophomore season at the University of the District of Columbia Community College, where he is currently pulling down over 12 boards a game while shooting over 50% on his three-pointers. Coach Redd had this to say:

"Obviously we are thrilled to have Robbie committed. It's no secret that depth down low is a question in a lot of fans' minds right now, so having a big strong guy with that kind of leaping ability, even just for a couple of years, it's a boon to the program while we set everything in place for our next chapters. We've scouted Robbie plenty, and he projects to be the steady kind of presence we need down low on defense, and with enough touch to scare you outside. What's he shooting, like half his threes right now? That's exciting. I'm excited."

Sep 01 2022: Holman out; Bradley Redd in - by noelypants on November 19th, 2021

Due to a misunderstanding about the terms of his contract, it has been mutually agreed upon that Aaron Holman will not be coaching the Boll Weevils next season. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.

We will instead be giving the head coaching position to Bradley Redd. We are very excited to be the team to offer him a head coaching position for the first time, and we believe he is exactly the person for this program.

After discussing the matter with the UAM Board of Advisors, I have made the decision to part ways with Tommie Goodman following the unfortunate relegation to D-II basketball next season. While I believe Tommie is a good coach (and in fact it was behind his leadership that we most recently re-entered D-I), I feel that now is an opportune time to begin a new chapter. Thank you, Tommie, for all the blood, sweat, and tears you have sacrificed for this program.

Without further ado, please allow me to introduce Aaron Holman. The face of the Virginia Tech Hokies for the better part of two decades, it is my hope that he can carve out a similar place in the history of our university.

I would like to end this statement with the words Aaron chose to end our phone call this morning: "Go Boll Weevils!"

I would like to extend a greeting to the student body and alumnus here at the wonderful University of Arkansas-Monticello, and thank everybody for the warm welcome I have received since arriving on campus. I am excited to work with Coach Goodman and the rest of the staff and players to make UAM the best program it can be. Go Boll Weevils!

Sep 01 2011: 2011 Season in the books for the Boll Weevils - by Hatleyville on March 13th, 2020

There were hopes for grandeur for UAM when the 2011 season started. This was probably the most talented overall team Coach Moreland had fielded during his tenure. There was experience and size aplenty. The only questions marks were 3 pt shooting and a true point guard. The 3 point shooting seemed to be a non issue, with the Boll Weevils leading the conference. The point guard situation wasn't too bad either. Francisco Zepeda wasn't a true PG by definition, but the rest of the players were good enough passers to shoulder some of the facilitation burden.

The only real problem that prevented UAM from promotion or advancing past the round of 32 in the tournament seemed to be timing. Specifically, timing of injuries. The Boll Weevils best player, Alexander Pheiffer, ended up missing 5 games in a critical part of the conference slate. During this time, UAM went 2-3. Those three losses cost UAM the chance at promotion, as well as a lower seed in the national tournament. Even though UAM ended up being the highest seed they have ever been (#5), they had been projected a #2 or #3 seed up until that point. That doesn't guarantee wins, but there's no doubt it helps.

Even though the season didn't play out the way we all wanted, there is still reason for hope and milestones to celebrate. Alexander Pheiffer became the first Boll Weevil ever to be drafted into the NBA (Round 2, Pick #4). And even though UAM lost 3 extremely talented and experienced Seniors, the underclassmen seem to have a lot of promise and there is still talent to build around.

The 2012 season will not be as hyped up as this past season due to more unknowns, but we still project UAM to compete in LL II.2 to avoid relegation and make the National Tournament as an At Large bid in the #9-#13 seed range.
