Mar 10 2045: Go Seawolves! - by lo12p3 on May 22nd, 2025

Anchorage is a desolate wasteland of loneliness. This Swiss recruit has no idea what he signed up for.

Apr 05 2021: Seawolves parted ways with Bernie Lawson, promoted Damon Dawson as new head coach - by lynx13 on September 24th, 2021

In a surprise move, the Seawolves announced today that they have parted ways with longtime coach Bernie Lawson.

"I wanted to take a step back from the game and go back to my hometown of New York. It was a difficult decision, and I have taken a long time to think about this, but eventually I feel it's the best for both the program and me. I'm proud to be part of this program. We overcame our geographical and reputational disadvantage to achieve some semblance of national prominence. Everyone has worked tirelessly to achieve this, and I want to thank all of them. I believe the best is still yet to come for the Seawolves."

During his 10-plus years tenure, Lawson compiled a 207-222 (.475) overall record and a 160-147 (.521) conference record, and 1 D2 national tournament appearance. He managed to bring UAA to D1, and his recruit Adrian Dennis become the first ever UAA player to get drafted.

The school has decided to promote Damon Dawson as its new head coach. He was an assistant coach with the Seawolves for 6 years before.

"Coach Lawson has put a solid foundation for our basketball program. He has shown that we were capable to compete with the big programs out there. I promise that we will work hard to get back to D1, and we WILL get there," said Dawson during the press conference introducing the new coach.

Oct 04 2018: Dennis become first Seawolves to be drafted, inducted into HOF with Ahrens - by lynx13 on April 10th, 2021

With the 18th pick of the 2018 draft, the Brooklyn team selects Adrian Dennis, from University of Alaska - Anchorage.
And with that, Dennis enters the UAA history book by becoming the first ever Seawolves to be drafted by a professional basketball team.
Not a highly touted international prospect, Dennis certainly impoved by leap and bounds during his 5 years in UAA, culminating in an all-conference honor in his senior year.
His career numbers: 22.9 mpg, 50.0 fg%, 9.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.9 apg, 1.0 spg, 0.9 bpg, 46.9 ofg, +4.6, 19 potg.

Together with Dennis, another inductee this year is Steven Ahrens.
Another unheralded recruit, he also made significant improvement to become arguably the best Seawolves players by the time he graduated. He also received all-conference honor in his junior year.
His career numbers: 25.5 mpg, 47.7 fg%, 11.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.2 bpg, 40.5 ofg, +5.0, 11 potg.

Oct 06 2016: 2016 Review - by lynx13 on December 18th, 2020

By all measures, this season was an unqualified success for the Seawolves. Despite being projected as demotion candidate during the preseason, the team surpassed all expectations and finished 4th in the conference, only 1 game behind of being promoted. Not only that, the team received the first tournament invitation in the team history.

In the end-of-season press conference, Coach Lawson said, "We dedicated this season to the long-suffering fans of Seawolves. This season proves that UAA is not just a backwater school without any good athletic program. We can compete with the rest of the country. Hopefully this will convince some top recruits to sign with us."

To celebrate arguably the best season in school history, President LynxVJ hosted a celebration in the Alaska Airlines Arena. Free flow of beer, and heaps of caribou and reindeer BBQ!!! 100 lucky students and alumni will also receive a special limited-edition commemorative team jersey for free. This was truly a season to celebrate for the Seawolves.

Oct 02 2014: 2014 Review - by lynx13 on August 29th, 2020

The Seawolves definitely beat the expectation this season. Predicted to finish as one of conference's cellar dwellers, the team actually managed to finish in top half with a winning record.

Contrary to expectation, the team decided to rely heavily on their upperclassmen this season. "Our incoming class has not developed fast enough to warrant significant playing time, so we decided to let them get more seasoned first", said Coach Lawson. However, some pundits suspected that he's concerned about the rumor of his job security, so that might play into his decision to temporarily halt the full blown youth movement.

When asked by reporters about the possibility that Coach Lawson is in hot seat, President Lynx VJ commented, "Look, this is college basketball. We need time to turn around a program, unlike in the pros where they can just spend their way to championship. It seems our basketball program is headed in the right direction."

Despite the assurance, many experts believe next season is make or break year for the coach. His first recruiting class will turn seniors, and whether or not they can reach their full potential remains to be seen.
