Press Releases:

Mar 30 2048: The Gibbs era begins in Oswego - by CreekCat11 on November 13th, 2025

As the 2048 season ends, Oswego State has made a major move, promoting assistant Bart Gibbs to head coach as Matthew Manning eases into retirement. Manning compiled a record of 89-76 overall and 67-53 in conference play over the last four seasons and guided the Lakers into Division 2 for the first time since 2025, but without much playoff success.

The Gibbs era begins with the departure of four senior starters, including all-conference shooting guard Cristian Rios (19.5 pts and 3 asts per game), point guard Douglas "Alaskan Assassin" West, center Mel Grace, and g/f Micheal Hodges. But a strong recruiting class and a solid foundation of returning players promises to keep the Lakers in contention for the coming 2049 season.

Nov 06 2047: West ties record with 16 assists against SUNY-Potsdam - by CreekCat11 on October 1st, 2025

Senior point guard Douglas West tied a 27-year-old school record for Oswego State with 16 assists in a 99-51 romp over SUNY-Potsdam. It was the seventh time in his two years at Oswego that West, a juco transfer from Alaska, had hit double digit assists in a game. He added 6 points and a rebound in matching the single-game mark held by Lakers great Ralph Peck since the 2021 season.

Mar 30 2047: 2047 Season recap - by CreekCat11 on September 17th, 2025

The Oswego State Lakers avoided demotion back to level VI by the skin of their teeth after an up-and-down 2046-47 season, finishing 20-21 overall and 14-16 in the V.7 conference. Some promising victories over conference rivals stood alongside a couple of early-season clunkers, including a brutal loss on the road to a bad Memphis team, and a 7-game losing streak heading into the postseason. A decent showing in the invitational and the return of four starters with a year's experience in division II gives the fan base hope for bigger things next season. Meanwhile the Lakers say goodbye to backup center Alvaro Aleman and hardworking juco transfer Leland Christy, and hello to freshmen Russell Dexter and Mickey Walsh. The rumored addition of a Sbarro self-serve kiosk in Ziel Gymnasium also has fans abuzz with excitement.

Mar 22 2046: Ahead of schedule at end of 2046 - by CreekCat11 on July 21st, 2025

The Oswego State Lakers are making a move up to level V next season for the first time since 2025 after surging through the latter half of the VI.14 schedule and taking third in the conference. The Lakers finished 27-15 overall, 21-9 in the conference, edging out Stanislaus State for the promotion on average point differential. Injuries to starters Micheal Hodges, Alejandro Calvo, and Emilis Kazlauskas forced some creative lineups, but the Lakers found their shooting touch from beyond the arc, leading the conference in 3-point percentage and picking up their defensive effort. The Lakers closed out the regular season with a 9-game winning streak (and victories in 12 of their last 13 games), their longest such streak since the 2022 season. They then won their first VI.14 playoff game in seven seasons but their luck ran out in the quarterfinals. Point differential kept Oswego from moving past the group stage in the invitational, but they held their own against stiff competition to prove the late season success was no fluke.

Four recruits join Oswego for next season as Calvo and Kazlauskas join starter Kermit Mueller, backup pg Josip Juric, and reliable walk-ons Owen Fingers and Bradley Britton in graduating and, probably, boring friends and family for the next several years with stories about the excitement of road games across small-town western Pennsylvania. The long-suffering Laker fanbase came out in big numbers for them this season though, almost 1500 per game, and looks forward to digging their cars out of the snow to watch their team take on the best of conference V.7 next year.

Mar 25 2045: Lakers put 2045 behind them, look forward to next season - by CreekCat11 on May 27th, 2025

With the 2045 Hardwood season at an end, it's time to take stock of SUNY-Oswego's year, the first full season with President CreekCat at the helm. The Lakers did not, as hoped, finish in the upper half of the VI.14 conference, landing in 10th with a 14-16 conference record, 16-25 overall. Another flameout in the conference tourney first round left Oswego competing once again in the level 37 invitational, but they lost 2 of 3 group games and couldn't repeat last year's win. It was a frustrating year overall, as the Lakers couldn't maintain momentum after wins and were plagued by turnovers, poor foul shooting, and an often flimsy defensive effort. A couple of bad losses to start the year also stung, especially a home L to what turned out to be a dismal Harvard team.

There were still a few wins worth celebrating, including late season victories over the top two teams in the conference, and senior Ryan Gilmore moved to the 5 position and became a force in the paint all season. Though Ryan is unlikely to get drafted, he could find a home in a Euro league or even in coaching. Oswego loses only Gilmore from this year's team, and adds a couple of strong recruits at guard and forward. Hopefully head coach Matt Manning can develop the bench, which was left pretty thin before the new regime took over at the end of the 2044 season. With a few lucky breaks, a better approach to game tactics, and a slightly softer schedule, the Lakers can finish with a winning record and at least a win or two in the conference tourney in 2046 while targeting recruits that will up the skill level at every position for the seasons after.
