Alpine, TX — After 8 years at the helm, Sul Ross men’s basketball coach Sam Flaherty can’t even bow his head in peace anymore. Word is, he heard the first whispers of his potential firing in church. One moment he’s praying for stronger defense, the next Sister Agnes leans over and says, “Sam, they say your replacement’s already warming up.”

And who’s the rumored heir? None other than brand-new assistant Lou Stevenson — a guy who, five minutes ago, was barking at eleven-year-olds in coed soccer. Yes, from “tie your shoes” to “run the floor,” Lou’s potential leap to head coach is raising more eyebrows than the ref’s last foul call.

Fans are torn: is Flaherty being shoved out after nearly a decade of blood, sweat, and winning records to be replaced by a juice-box general? Or is this just another Alpine tall tale spun between pews?

If true, Sul Ross basketball is about to swap eight years of experience for Capri Suns and snack schedules — and the whole town’s watching.
