Western Connecticut State Colonials Make History: Win VI.13 Conference, Move to Division I -
by cdgreg05 on September 8th, 2025
Danbury, CT — 3/2/2047 — In a season defined by resilience, grit, and history-making performances, the Western Connecticut State Colonials men’s basketball team has officially won the V.13 Conference Championship and earned promotion to Division I basketball for the first time in program history.
Led by head coach Louie Nickerson, the Colonials overcame a challenging start to the conference season. At one point, sitting in 9th place, the team regrouped, locked in, and delivered an unforgettable 16-game win streak that propelled them to the top of the conference standings.
“This group never stopped believing,” said Coach Nickerson. “We faced adversity early, but our players committed to each other and to the process. To win the conference and make the leap to Division I is a dream come true for this program, our university, and our fans.”
The Colonials’ run was powered by standout performances from Power Forward Miles Easter, whose inside dominance set the tone on both ends of the floor, and sharpshooting Guard Ruben Trevino, who emerged as one of the most dangerous perimeter threats in the league. Newcomer Shane Stuckey also played a vital role, anchoring the defense and providing consistency in the paint while allowing Easter to shift to his preferred spot at the 4.
As the program celebrates its historic rise, the Colonials take a moment to honor their graduating seniors. Ruben Trevino and Joey Watson leave behind an enduring legacy of leadership, excellence, and passion for the game. Their contributions both on and off the court have laid the foundation for this next era of Western Connecticut State basketball.
“This achievement is about more than basketball,” added Coach Nickerson. “It’s about our university community, our alumni, and our loyal fans who have supported us every step of the way. We can’t wait to represent Western Connecticut State on the Division I stage.”
The Colonials will officially begin competing at the Division I level next season, ushering in a new chapter of opportunity and competition for the program.

Western Connecticut State Colonials Celebrate Historic Basketball Season and Honor Departing Seniors -
by cdgreg05 on July 24th, 2025
Danbury, CT — The Western Connecticut State Colonials Men’s Basketball Team has capped off the 2045–2046 season with a run for the ages, claiming the conference title outright and securing the conference tournament championship in a dominant campaign that marked their best performance since 2002. They also won their first Tournament game in the history of the program.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Louie Nickerson, the Colonials displayed grit, unity, and championship-level execution all season long. Their effort culminated in a record-breaking run that energized fans and brought national attention back to the program.
“This group was special,” said Coach Nickerson. “They raised the standard of what it means to be a Colonial.”
As the team looks to the future, they will bid farewell to three senior standouts: Randy Medley, Hugh Hacker, and Eddie Newton. Each played an instrumental role in the team’s success, both on and off the court. In recognition of their exceptional leadership, athletic performance, and community involvement, all three have been preemptively inducted into the Western Connecticut State University Athletics Hall of Fame—an extraordinary honor that reflects their lasting legacy. An official ceremony will take place soon at Feldman Arena.
Randy Medley, a floor general and vocal leader, was the engine of the Colonials' offense and a mentor to younger players.
Hugh Hacker anchored the defense with unmatched intensity and became a fan favorite for his hustle, heart, and outstanding shooting ability.
Eddie Newton, known for his clutch post play and calm demeanor, provided the consistent spark that carried the Colonials through the toughest stretches of the season.
Together, these seniors led the program to its best conference result in over four decades, reigniting the spirit of Colonial basketball and laying the foundation for continued excellence.
“Randy, Hugh, and Eddie have changed the trajectory of this program,” said Athletic Director Chirs Gregs. “They represent everything we strive for—excellence, sportsmanship, and integrity.” "The only downside to Hugh and Eddie was that they were only here for two years," continued Gregs.
As the Colonials prepare for the 2046–2047 season, the legacy of these three will serve as a guiding light. Their banners may soon hang in the rafters, but their influence will be felt in the locker room and beyond for years to come.
Go Colonials!

A Phenomenal Season -
by cdgreg05 on July 16th, 2025
As the Conference Tournament is ongoing, I would like to release a statement congratulating our guys on a phenomenal regular season. We finished 28-2 in the conference and did not lose a single home conference game. This resulted in our first Regular Season Conference Championship since 2002, over 40 years ago.
With 9 new players entering the program last season, it was always going to be a multi-year plan to get this team back where they belong. I cannot be more proud of the guys for working and developing as much as they have.
With their tremendous dedication, this roster has secured promotion back into V.13. I would also like to congratulate Greenville and Alderson-Broaddus for their tremendous seasons. I wish them the best of luck in division 2 (except when they play us).
Good luck to the WCS squad in the postseason and we will see you back in Feldman Arena next season!
Go Colonials!

To Infinity and Beyond! -
by cdgreg05 on December 30th, 2024
I know this has been a very topsy-turvy start to the season. However, as the new President of such a great university, I have full faith that this team will be brought back to the heights that it yearns for. We will continue learning and adapting to a new world of college basketball and we will recruit at the highest level. We want guys who want to be here. Guys who will play for the name on the front of the jersey and not the name on the back. We are all super excited here at WCS.
Go Colonials!
