Texas State has announced a leadership change within its men’s basketball program, parting ways with head coach Landon Madson following the conclusion of the season. The university thanked Madson for his efforts and professionalism during his tenure but determined that a new direction was necessary to move the program forward. In his place, Texas State has hired Alex Alicea, a veteran coach with a strong track record of program building, player development, and recruiting success. Alicea brings a disciplined, long-term vision to San Marcos and is expected to establish a competitive foundation as the Bobcats look toward the next phase of growth.

Texas State Men’s Basketball has announced the signing of Louis Tipton, a 6’6” forward from Revere, Massachusetts, who will join the Bobcats ahead of the upcoming season.

Tipton arrives as a versatile frontcourt player known for his high basketball IQ, strong rebounding instincts, and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. A productive junior college standout, he brings maturity, physicality, and a team-first approach that fits seamlessly into Texas State’s system.

“Louis plays the game the right way,” said the Texas State head coach. “He understands spacing, makes smart decisions, and competes on every possession. His experience and toughness will be valuable additions to our frontcourt rotation.”

Tipton averaged 9.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game at the junior college level while showing the ability to contribute as both a scorer and facilitator. He is expected to provide immediate depth and versatility in the Bobcats’ frontcourt rotation.
